The chairman of China’s top political advisory body on Wednesday pledged to unite public support and forge consensus to ensure the 15th Five-Year Plan gets off to a successful start.
Wang Huning, head of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), delivered a work report at the Great Hall of the People to mark the opening of its annual session, which will run until next Wednesday.
He said 2025 was a pivotal year for China’s path to modernisation.
He added that despite the complex global environment, the economy pressed ahead, with new quality productive forces growing steadily and reforms advancing in an orderly way.
He added that China’s economic, technological, defence strength and its overall national power had all risen to a new level.
Looking ahead, he said the CPPCC would continue to unite broad support and gather wisdom.
"We will bring together all political parties and individuals from all ethnic groups and sectors to the CPPCC to pool public support, build consensus, gather wisdom, and harness strength so as to secure a good start to the 15th Five-Year Plan period," he said.
Wang said the CPPCC would align its policy advice with the 15th Five‑Year Plan conducting in‑depth research and consultations on major tasks and strategies.
He said the body would focus on key issues in economic development, tech innovation, social development and people’s livelihoods, and faithfully reflect public opinion.
