Two people have died following a vehicular collision near the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.

Police received reports at around 11am on Thursday of a collision between a taxi and a 16-tonne truck on Fan Kam Road.

The collision, which saw the taxi pile into the side of the truck, left the cabbie, who was in his 50s, and a female passenger, who was in her 80s, trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters managed to extricate the two.

Both of them were pronounced dead at Northern Hospital.
