Two people have died following a vehicular collision near Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.

Police received reports at 11.30am on Thursday of a collision between a taxi and a 16-tonne truck on Fan Kam Road.

The collision, which saw the taxi pile into the side of the truck, left the 56-year-old cabbie and a female passenger, 65, trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters managed to extricate the two.

Both of them were pronounced dead at Northern Hospital.

The truck driver, 35, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and was being detained for further enquiries.
