Ten people were injured after 10 cars collided in a chain-reaction accident on Tsing Ma Bridge on Thursday morning.
Police received reports at around 8.30am of the accident involving multiple westbound vehicles heading towards the airport.
Photos circulating online show one car ending up on its side, while the front end of another suffered extensive damage along with a shattered windshield.
Officers said two people had been trapped but were conscious when they were extricated.
Several lanes had to be closed to facilitate the recovery operation, with airport-bound traffic stretching all the way back to Stonecutters Bridge as of 10:30am.
The Transport Department said the lower deck carriageway of Lantau Link has opened to traffic to ease congestion, and urged motorists to remain patient as they pass through the area.
The MTR said it had stepped up services on the Airport Express and the Tung Chung line.
