Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday expressed his sorrow over the death of former non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal Anthony Mason.
The Australian served on the city's highest court from 1997 to 2015.
Lee said that Mason was instrumental in establishing the reputation of the Court of Final Appeal and furthering its prestige in the SAR.
The CE also praised him for being a steadfast supporter of legal education in Hong Kong.
Mason was 100.
Lee extended his deepest condolences to Mason's family.
