The State Council on Monday appointed former government official Janice Tse as Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
It said she was nominated by Chief Executive John Lee.
Tse takes over from acting secretary Clement Woo, who replaced his former boss Erick Tsang in January following his resignation due to health reasons.
Tse had last served as Permanent Secretary for Environment and Ecology before retiring last year after decades serving in different capacities in government.
