Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has been named the "Best Airport in the World" at this year’s Global Travel Awards, earning recognition for its outstanding aviation infrastructure and passenger experience.

The award, determined by votes from millions of travellers around the globe, saw HKIA competing against a field of leading airports from Asia, the Middle East and other regions.

In addition to the global honour, the airport was named "Best Airport in China" at the TTG China Travel Awards for the third consecutive year.

It also received two accolades at the 2026 World Airport Awards by Skytrax for "World’s Best Airport Security Processing" and "World’s Best Airport Washrooms."

In a statement, the airport said the awards reflect its commitment to upholding rigorous security standards while harnessing innovative technologies to deliver a seamless and efficient passenger experience.

"HKIA has fully automated security gates, immigration channels and boarding gates through facial recognition, and is currently undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of security screening channels across all areas, replacing traditional X-ray channels with CT-driven screening," it said.

"The forthcoming Terminal 2 will also incorporate this proven efficiency enhancement, alongside other upgrades of passenger facilities."

Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said the honours are a testament to the dedication and collective efforts of the entire airport community.

“We continue to expand our air network for both passenger and cargo traffic, with a view to reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as the hub of Asia," she said.

"Looking ahead, Skytopia's development will transform HKIA into an Airport City, creating a dynamic destination that inspires travel, drives connectivity and welcomes the world to Hong Kong."
