Customs have arrested a 64-year-old woman after she allegedly tried to smuggle a dog through the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point.

Officers stopped her on Thursday in the arrival hall, allegedly finding the dog in her rucksack.

The dog, which was seized, has an estimated market value of about HK$20,000.

The case has been handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.

Under the Rabies Regulation, anyone found guilty of illegally importing animals faces a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and one year behind bars.
