Chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party, Cheng Li-wun, on Wednesday paid homage to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing as part of her mainland visit.

Paying homage to the mausoleum has long been an important part of visits by the heads of KMT to the mainland, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Sun, who played a pivotal role in the 1911 Revolution overthrowing imperial rule in China, died in 1925.

Cheng is the first KMT leader to lead a delegation to the mainland in a decade. She arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday and her trip, which also covers Beijing, will last till Sunday.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office reiterated the mainland's readiness to strive for peace across the Taiwan Strait.

Zhu Fenglian said both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, and that cross-strait issues should be resolved through consultation among the Chinese people.
