The Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Cui Jianchun, said on Tuesday that China is the guardian of regional stability amid an evolving regional landscape.

He made the comment in a session explaining last month's Two Sessions in Beijing to foreign diplomats in the SAR.

Cui said these days, the annual meetings of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference are not just a matter for the country, but for people from every corner of the world.

"In China, we have a saying that... your success is not necessarily relying on China, but China must be a [contributing] part to your nation's success," he said.

Explaining the country's position on foreign affairs, Cui said he wanted consul-generals in Hong Kong to know that setting up structures outside the United Nations is not the answer to global changes.

Pointing to Foreign Minister Wang Yi's stance last month, Cui said China has been calling for an immediate end to military operations in the Middle East.

"I try to emphasise here, it's very important that as the regional landscape evolves, China is a guardian of regional stability," Cui said.

"China is dedicated to fostering an amicable, secure and prosperous neighbourhood."

The commissioner noted that in October, Hong Kong will be among Chinese cities hosting ministerial meetings of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

He said this will be a set of landmark meetings that will help a lot in terms of the development of the Greater Bay Area.

Cui stressed that the bottom line for Sino-US relations is peaceful co-existence, as the two sides seek common ground and win-win solutions.

He said the future of Sino-Japanese relations is up to Japan, while adding that China is a good friend, neighbour and partner of Asean countries.
