China and Thailand said they attached great importance to tackling cyber scams during Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to the Southeast Asian country.

Wang on Friday held talks with Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Bangkok.

The two sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in fighting transnational crime and cyberscams and other illegal activities, Thai government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said.

Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Thailand issued a fresh warning about scams.

It said many Chinese nationals were recently lured to areas along the Thai-Myanmar border to take part in criminal activities.

The embassy called on Chinese nationals travelling to Thailand to be vigilant.

On Wednesday, Wang called for the complete eradication of scam centres in Cambodia during his visit to that country.

China is Thailand's biggest trading partner and the visit by Wang is aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership and expanding cooperation between the two nations.

The foreign minister also expressed hopes for improved relations between Thailand and Cambodia following two rounds of armed conflict last year.

Wang will travel to Myanmar next on the final leg of his overseas trip. (Agencies)
