Dozens of Wang Fuk Court residents made long climbs back to their fire-ravaged homes on Tuesday to salvage what's left of their belongings, spending around two and a half hours on average in the buildings once engulfed in flames.

Higher floors of Wang Cheong House and Wang Tao House were made available for people to return, with a total of 498 individuals making trips to the Tai Po housing estate for the day.

The government said residents spent around two hours and 33 minutes on average inside the blocks.

There were seven cases requesting police assistance in connection with suspected missing property such as watches, jewellery, cash and gold accessories, and officers were able to recover the belongings in one instance.

In four other cases, there were no signs of ransacking and the residents could not provide details on the belongings concerned. The force would further investigate the remaining cases.

There was also one case involving a resident seeking help after feeling unwell.

Residents of Wang Tai House and Wang Kin House would be allowed to return to retrieve their belongings from Wednesday.
