Two taxi drivers have been arrested in Sai Kung in an undercover operation for alleged overcharging a day prior to the start of the Labour Day Golden Week.
The men, aged 43 and 66, were suspected of charging about HK$300 and HK$540, about twice the original fare.
They were also alleged to have failed to ensure their taxi driving licences and meters were openly displayed.
Police said their taxis had been impounded for further investigations.
Last Saturday, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said authorities were determined to clamp down on taxi drivers' misbehaviour, including overcharging.
The government would not tolerate any misconduct that affects the SAR's tourism reputation, she added.
Offenders face a fine of up to HK$10,000 and six months in prison for a first conviction for overcharging.
