A taxi driver was arrested on Wednesday for suspected dangerous driving causing death after an accident in Ngau Tau Kok left one person dead and four others injured.
Police said the incident happened close to 2pm, when the 70-year-old driver, who was travelling along Choi Ha Road, lost control of his vehicle and veered onto the pavement and knocked down two female pedestrians.
Both pedestrians were unconscious when taken to hospital, where one was later pronounced dead.
The driver – who has been detained – and two passengers also sustained injuries and were conscious when they were sent to hospital for treatment.
The force’s special investigation team for traffic at Kowloon East is looking into the incident.
It called on witnesses to contact officers by calling 3661 0277.
