RTHK signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Macao's public broadcaster Teledifusão de Macau, SA (TDM) on Wednesday to strengthen programme exchange and talent development.

Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan and Director of the Executive Committee of TDM Lo Song Man signed the MOU at a signing ceremony.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and Director General of the International Cooperation Department of National Radio and Television Administration, Zhou Jihong.

Under the initiative, a number of RTHK productions – including the large-scale documentary "Lin Zexu: Beyond the Humen Opium Destruction", which recounts the deeds of a national hero, and "Hong Kong Stories: Master In The House 2", showcasing Hong Kong’s craftsmanship – will be broadcast in Macao, while a TDM programme on historical figures will be aired in Hong Kong.

“RTHK hopes the memorandum will further deepen cooperation with TDM, deepen mutual understanding between audiences in Hong Kong and Macao, and strengthen public appreciation of history of the nation,” Kwan said in a statement.

Kwan noted that RTHK has stepped up collaboration with broadcasters in places in Malaysia, Vietnam, Guangdong and Guangxi over the past year.

“Leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a super-connector between the Chinese Mainland and overseas cities, RTHK programmes have reached audiences across different regions,” she added.

Separately, Kwan also attended the 121st ABU Administrative Council Meeting and engaged with regional broadcasters from various countries and regions during the visit.

RTHK is set to host the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Robot Contest 2026 that brings together more than 300 elite engineering students from 15 Asia-Pacific countries and regions in Hong Kong in August.

By hosting the international event, the public broadcaster aims to foster greater exchange and collaboration among young people in engineering, technology and innovation across the region.
