The government said it started issuing letters of offer to all Wang Fuk Court homeowners on Thursday.
Owners wishing to sell their flats back to the administration, whether they opt for a cash payment or flat-for-flat arrangement, must sign and return an accompanying letter of acceptance by the end of August.
As for Wang Chi House, the only building at the Tai Po estate which was not damaged by November's deadly inferno, at least 75 percent of owners must sign the letter of acceptance on or before the end of June, otherwise, the buyout plan will not cover the block.
To encourage homeowners to respond at an early stage, officials said, those who sign the letter of acceptance before the end of June will have priority in selecting a new subsidised flat under the special sales exercise set up for Wang Fuk Court.
"Upon receipt of the owners' duly signed 'letter of acceptance', the government will make every effort to promptly assist in completing the agreement for sale and purchase and the assignment, taking into account the circumstances of each case,” a spokesman said.
