Hong Kong has seen heavy rainfall overnight, with the Observatory issuing the red rainstorm warning at 2.40 am before replacing it at 5.15 am with the amber warning, which was cancelled at 9.30 am.

It warned of heavy rain in the northern part of the New Territories, especially around Sheung Shui, Ta Kwu Ling, and Sha Tau Kok.

The Drainage Services Department said 90 emergency response teams had been called in to inspect or clear flood water.

It said as of 3 am, seven flooding cases had been confirmed and all had been resolved by 5 am, with the help of powerful drainage robots.

The Observatory also issued a special landslip warning.

It said heavy showers and squally thunderstorms associated with upper-air disturbances are persistently affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.

More than 50 mm of rainfall were recorded across various districts on Thursday morning, even exceeding 100 mm in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing, Tai Po and Sai Kung.
