The governing body of a school in Tuen Mun on Tuesday issued an apology expressing deep regret over an incident involving its student exchange group in Singapore last week.

Online video showed a man — widely believed to be the school’s principal — seen verbally abusing a local security officer, including using offensive language, during confrontation aboard a tour bus, reportedly triggered by a parking dispute.

In a statement, the governing body emphasised that the school and its sponsoring body have always placed the highest priority on staff professional conduct.

“Should any teaching or administrative staff [be] involved in misconduct or inappropriate behaviour, the school will inevitably conduct investigations and follow-up actions in accordance with established procedures," the statement read.

The governing body said it's highly concerned about the case and it's working closely with the tour operator to obtain full details of the incident.

Outcomes of the investigation will be provided to all students, parents, and staff at a later date.

Edmund Wong, a former lawmaker and an independent manager of the school’s Incorporated Management Committee, said the committee would convene a meeting on Tuesday to address the incident.

"We will hold a committee meeting to discuss the incident, which will include, but not be limited to, meeting with the principal," he spoke on a radio programme.

"Following that, we will explain the matter to all teaching staff, students, and parents. This is to reassure all students, parents and relevant stakeholders that we accept full responsibility and are capable of managing the situation."

He added the committee would fully cooperate with the Education Bureau’s investigation.

Asked if he expects the internal probe to conclude within a week, Wong stressed that the committee would carry it out as quickly as possible, though he didn’t provide an exact timeframe.
