Two vessels of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) will visit Hong Kong for five days next month and they will be open for public visits and cultural exchange activities during their stay in the SAR.

Guided-missile destroyer Nanning and guided-missile frigate Hengyang will arrive in Hong Kong on July 2 and stay until July 6.

The Ministry of National Defense announced the visit on social media.

It said the visit will enable compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao to gain a more direct and in-depth understanding of the development of national defence and military construction in the new era.

Commissioned in 2021, the Nanning was deployed to Sudan in April 2023 to evacuate hundreds of Chinese citizens and foreign nationals from a civil war.

The Hengyang, meanwhile, was commissioned in 2008 and had taken part in many escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somalia over the years.

A separate PLA naval fleet, led by the Shandong aircraft carrier, also visited the SAR in July 2025.
