Ocean Park announced on Tuesday that a series of panda-themed events and activities will be rolled out to mark the birthdays of the six giant pandas that it is fostering.

These include the second birthday of locally-born panda cub twins Jia Jia and De De, as well as those of their parents Ying Ying and Le Le, who are both born in August, as well as An An and Ke Ke, who were born in June and gifted by Beijing two years ago.

One of the highlights of the celebrations include a five-metre-tall bun tower located at Waterfront Plaza while another is a Panda Friends Cute and Cuddly Zone where more than 60 sculptures are available for visitors to take photos with.

Revellers wishing to cool off under scorching temperatures can enjoy a series of water fun, including a water bomb fight and a mega water bucket.

All birthday celebrations will run till the end of August.

Ocean Park chairman Paulo Pong said the giant pandas are a big draw for locals and tourists alike.

“The arrival of An An, Ke Ke, and of course, little brother and big sister, they have brought so much happiness to the park, to Hong Kong citywide, and it’s gotten the park as well as Hong Kong onto the international stage. It’s been an amazing journey here for everyone at the park,” he said.

Pong said Hong Kong will continue to help the country in conserving and breeding pandas, adding that a new exhibit dedicated to housing the panda cubs will open next year.
