Mainland shares were mixed in opening trades amid volatile trading in regional markets.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened down 0.09 percent at 4,090 before gaining ground to be 43 points, or 1.06 percent, up at 4,137 at one stage in mid-morning trading.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.13 percent higher at 16,226 before putting on gains to be 74 points, or 0.46 percent, higher at 16,279 by mid-morning.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei opened 712 points, or 1.02 percent, up at 70,774 before wild fluctuations put the 225-stock benchmark up at 71,948 in mid-morning trading and much lower at 70,246 at one stage before noon.
In Seoul, the Kospi opened 115 points, or 1.36 percent, up at 8,591 before the South Korean benchmark went into the red to be 146 points, or 1.73 percent, at 8,330 at one stage before midday. (Xinhua and Reuters)
