Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stressed the need for China and the United States to stay on course towards a constructive relationship of strategic stability during a phone conversation with American Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday.
Wang said consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump in talks in Beijing in May set the direction for bilateral ties over the next three years or longer.
The foreign minister said the two countries should uphold the spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, adding that building a constructive relationship of strategic stability is not a slogan but requires concrete action.
He also called on the US to handle Taiwan-related issues with extra prudence. (Reporting by Xinhua)
