Cathay Pacific announced on Thursday that it plans to resume passenger flights to and from the Middle East starting September 1.

This means that there will be daily flights to and from Dubai, and four flights to and from Riyadh per week.

Tickets are already on sale.

As for freighter flights, Cathay plans to resume services to Riyadh from August 1.

“Cathay will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation in the Middle East prior to the resumption dates,” a statement read.

Middle East flights operated by the carrier had been suspended since the start of the US-Iran war in late February.

Writing on social media, the Transport and Logistics Bureau said it is pleased with the arrangement.

It noted the route between the SAR and Riyadh is operated exclusively by Cathay Pacific, saying that the resumption will reconnect Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia, which holds strategic and symbolic significance in deepening bilateral relations and economic and trade development.

Transport chief Mable Chan said the resumption of services not only expands and enhances the route network of the Hong Kong International Airport, but it also further consolidates the SAR’s status as an international aviation hub.
