The Chinese University on Friday said it had suspended the administrative duties of its Associate Dean of Engineering William Wong, who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, with immediate effect.
Wong, a lawmaker, was reportedly arrested after his vehicle hit two cars parked at an outdoor campus car park on Monday.
Responding to media enquiries, the university said it was aware of and deeply concerned about the incident.
It said it takes staff conduct and integrity very seriously.
"Since police are currently investigating the case, the university will not make further comments on the matter," it said in a statement.
On Thursday, Legco’s Supervisory Committee said it would seriously handle cases related to the conduct and ethics of lawmakers.
It said it would deal with such situations according to the Code for Members of the Legislative Council.
