Police on Sunday announced the arrest of three men on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs in Yuen Long.

In a Friday operation, officers seized about 172 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine worth an estimated HK$128 million from a warehouse.

The trio, aged 28 to 35, will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts on Monday.

Speaking at a press briefing, Chief Inspector Lam Pak-kiu from the police Narcotics Bureau said the drug syndicate chose remote locations to store drugs, and concealed the narcotics inside metal containers lined with X-ray-blocking material to avoid detection.

He added that the suspects were caught while attempting to cut two metal containers filled with suspected drugs.

“We strongly condemn the drug syndicate for using cutting tools with compressed gas without any safety measures to carry out illegal activities,” he said.

“Accidents would put nearby residents and workers in grave danger and cause catastrophic consequences.”

Lam said an investigation is still underway and more arrests could be made.
