Police Commissioner Joe Chow on Saturday said the force is continuing to investigate the embryo samples mix-up at a fertility clinic in Central.

Earlier this week, the clinic was ordered to suspend most of its services and submit a report. This came after embryo samples it had sent to a laboratory for genetic testing did not match the stated parents' DNA.

Speaking to reporters, Chow said police had received referrals on Monday.

"We immediately began a series of tasks after receiving reports, and visited the centre to understand the procedures involved in the cases," he said.

"We also met with people at the centre, including its director and staff members.

"For the time being, we do not see any criminal element involved, so we are not yet able to say what the applicable law is in this case."

More updates would be made, Chow said, when more information becomes available.
