Veteran Hong Kong filmmaker Nansun Shi passed away on Monday at the age of 75.
She had produced and distributed many of the city's classic cinematic works, including "Infernal Affairs", "A Chinese Ghost Story", and "Once Upon a Time in China".
Shi's film studio said in a statement that she had been in declining health since 2022 due to immune system issues. In recent months, a bacterial infection led to multiple organ failure, it said.
Her ex‑husband, director Tsui Hark, told reporters Shi had stayed strong until the very end. He said she passed away peacefully in hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Shi and Tsui were jointly awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards last year.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law expressed sorrow over Shi's passing and extended her deepest condolences to her family.
In a statement, Law said Shi had made significant contributions to the long-term development of Hong Kong's film industry.
Law noted that Shi had served as a jury member or president at major international film festivals and received multiple local and international awards for her global vision and marketing skills. Law said her efforts were key to promoting Hong Kong films on the international stage.
Law said Shi will always be remembered for her extraordinary contributions to Hong Kong's film and TV industry.
