Police said four boys have been arrested after they allegedly threw wet wipes and splashed water at pedestrians – including elderly residents – in Tsuen Wan.

The four, aged 12 to 14, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of common assault.

Chief Inspector Leung Wai-yee from the Tsuen Wan district crime unit said the case involved at least four victims – three men and a woman aged 45 to 71.

She said the victims were unhurt, adding the boys did not know them personally.

“The four boys are believed to have been motivated by a dispute over the use of cycle tracks, park facilities and space, which led to the incident,” she said.

“The four boys are form one and form two students in secondary schools in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing, and they know each other.”

Leung said the boys were still being detained for investigation as of Wednesday afternoon.

More arrests could be made and officers are reviewing whether there had been similar incidents, she said.

Leung stressed that youth is no excuse for breaking the law, and reminded parents to pay attention to their children’s daily lives and social circles.
