The University of Hong Kong's President and Vice-Chancellor, Zhang Xiang, has announced he will step down in 2028 after completing his ten-year term.
In an email to the HKU community, he said the university needs to embrace new ideas, and a new leader is needed to guide the transformation.
Zhang said he is making the announcement early to give the university enough time to find a successor.
He said that as a scientist and professor, he looks forward to returning to the laboratory to keep contributing to research and to society.
