A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle more than 200 live turtles and two turtle eggs, worth some HK$21,800, out of Hong Kong.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Customs and Excise Department said its officers intercepted a car at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on July 14 after conducting a risk assessment.
Upon inspection, officers seized 216 live turtles and the two turtle eggs from the boot of the vehicle.
The driver, 52, has been released on bail pending investigation.
