Police said on Wednesday that they arrested seven people in connection with a bar fight that has left a man in critical condition.

The incident occurred at a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday.

Officers said they suspect that the 32-year-old victim and his friends’ behaviour caused "dissatisfaction" amongst those sitting nearby.

The victim sustained severe head injuries as well as a fractured left rib, and is still in intensive care after undergoing two brain surgeries.

Superintendent Ching Chi-yan from Crime Kowloon West Headqaurters said the arrestees aged 24 to 46 are alleged of wounding with intent and assisting offenders, and some were suspected to have a triad background.

They were believed to have participated in the attack, helped the attackers flee the scene, offered premises for the attackers to hide in, as well as assisted them in evading police.

But Ching did not specify how many attackers there were, adding that officers have seized the clothes that the attackers were wearing at the time of the offence, as well as four vehicles used to help them flee the scene.

“Based on our investigation, it appeared that there were physical scuffles initially, possibly compounded by the influence of alcohol that led to this assault," he said.

Ching added that around seven to eight people are suspected to have participated in the attack, and that five to six people are alleged of assisting the attackers.

Authorities have not ruled out further arrests.
