Water supply in Tuen Mun is progressively returning to normal following the completion of emergency repairs on Thursday, according to the Water Supplies Department (WSD).

The department said in a social media post that they completed urgent maintenance work on Castle Peak Road near Tuen Hing Road, and fresh water service to Villa Tiara, Hin Fat Estate, Handsome Court and Alpine Garden has been gradually restored from 6pm.

Throughout the disruption, the department mobilised about 70 staff members to set up over 10 temporary water supply points near the affected estates, alongside two water trucks and more than 30 water tanks to ensure adequate emergency supplies.

A dedicated task force was also deployed to hand-deliver bottled water to residents with special needs, although the department noted that only a handful of households actually used the temporary collection points.

For residents whose tap water looks milky white or slightly turbid upon supply restoration, the WSD has assured the public that this is a normal phenomenon caused by trapped air in the pipes.

The department advised users to remove the strainer from the faucet, let the tap run for a few minutes until the water clears, and then reinstall the strainer.

The outage stemmed from an initial leak reported on Tuesday night, which cut supply until Wednesday morning. However, engineers detected a new leak shortly afterwards, forcing the suspension to be re-imposed from 11pm on Wednesday.
