Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan visited the newly redeveloped Huanggang port on Friday to assess its transport infrastructure, as the government pledges to deliver a seamless and efficient cross-border travel experience between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

The SAR officially assumed jurisdiction over the port’s Hong Kong Port Area on Friday.

A co-location arrangement, combined with a "collaborative inspection and joint clearance" model, will soon be introduced, enabling travellers to complete clearance procedures in a single stop.

During the visit, Chan examined service provisions at the public transport interchange within the port building.

The hub will offer a range of local public transport options, including franchised buses, green minibuses and taxis, alongside cross-boundary passenger services.

Chan directed the Transport Department to conduct a comprehensive review of all operational details, such as signage, to ensure they are user-friendly.

She also stressed the need for robust crowd-control and traffic-management measures during peak travel hours to ensure orderly and efficient operations.

To bolster connectivity, the Transport Department plans to extend or adjust existing bus and minibus routes, and introduce new services. At the same time, short-haul cross-boundary bus services at Lok Ma Chau will be enhanced.

Looking ahead, Chan noted that her bureau will continue to supervise and refine services while pushing forward with the port’s full-scale development.

She has also instructed her team to prepare for upcoming emergency drills to ensure operational readiness.
