A worker has died after falling from height at a construction site in Kowloon City.

Police received a report of the fatal accident on Sa Po Road at around noon on Monday, and have classified the case as an industrial accident.

The man was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Fay Siu, chief executive of the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims, said the man was a safety personnel at the site.

“The person doing safety-related work is believed to have fallen from the rooftop onto the scaffolding and died,” she said.

“He was in his 30s and leaves behind two children aged seven and three. His wife, a housewife, is now feeling helpless. We hope to know the cause of the accident as soon as possible.

“This is already the 17th fatal accident in the construction industry since the beginning of this year. This is deeply upsetting. We hope relevant departments can look for ways to prevent similar events from happening.”

Siu said it was unclear what duties the man was performing when the accident occurred and whether he needed to wear a safety belt.

The Labour Department said it has deployed staff to the scene and is investigating the cause of the accident.
