Severe Typhoon Dolphin is bringing extremely hot weather to Hong Kong, as the huge storm system heads towards a landfall further north.

At 12.20 pm, the Observatory recorded temperatures of 37 degrees in Yuen Long Park and over 36 degrees in Sheung Shui, Tseung Kwan O and Happy Valley.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities.

The Observatory says Dolphin is moving towards Zhejiang and northern Fujian, and its outer subsiding air will bring persistently extreme heat to Hong Kong over the weekend and into Monday.

The National Meteorological Centre said Dolphin was expected to make landfall sometime from late Sunday to early Monday, most likely between Zhoushan in Zhejiang, and Fuding in Fujian.

The hot weather is expected to continue into the middle of next week. (With additional reporting from Reuters)
