The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said a woman was being prosecuted for allegedly keeping 136 dogs without valid licences.

The AFCD said the case came to light after officers raided an animal shelter in Yuen Long district upon receiving complaints about the premises.

Officers suspect the dogs found there were being kept without valid licences.

The case will be mentioned at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts on September 2.

Under the law, all dogs over five months old are required to hold a valid licence, which must be renewed every three years.

Anyone found guilty faces a maximum fine of HK$10,000.
