President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the 78th anniversary of the founding of the country's government.

In his message on Saturday, Xi pointed out that China and South Korea are important neighbours and partners.

Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, he said, the two countries have, through joint efforts, achieved mutual success and common development, with fruitful outcomes in exchanges and cooperation across various fields.

Xi said that, at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, he and Lee successfully exchanged visits, providing strategic guidance for the development of China-South Korea relations.

Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of China-South Korea relations and stands ready to work with Lee to ensure that the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries continues to move forward along the right track, bringing greater benefits to the two peoples and making greater contributions to peace and development in the region and beyond.
