Shares in Hong Kong and on the mainland opened higher on Monday, driven by tech heavyweights.

The city's benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 186 points, or 0.7 percent, to stand at 25,303 points at the open.

The Hang Seng Tech Index, meanwhile, edged up 1.1 percent to open at 4,761 points.

Leading the gains were shares from tech heavyweights, with those of JD.com rallying 3.5 percent and Alibaba and Tencent advancing 1.8 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.

On the mainland, stocks also opened higher, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.07 percent to 3,930 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.3 percent higher at 14,399 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, was up 0.2 percent to open at 3,632 points.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and other indices, reflects the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The gains came following a retreat on Wall Street last week as investors assessed fresh data that tempered expectations for a US interest rate hike next month, but indicated weakness in the world's top economy.

All eyes are now on the release of China's activity data for July after its exports boomed on robust global AI demand.
