Five people were killed and 17 others injured following a wall collapse in Sichuan province.

According to local authorities, the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in a village in Changning County.

An investigation showed that a villager was holding a courtyard banquet at home, and excessive water accumulated on a temporary rain shelter caused the wall — used to anchor the shelter — to collapse.

Three people died at the scene and two others were declared dead at hospital.

Reports said the family held the banquet to celebrate their children's college entrance. (Xinhua/Reuters)
