Secretary for Security Chris Tang and a Shenzhen delegation inspected the new Huanggang port facility on Wednesday to review final preparations, saying the target is to begin operations as early as possible.
During a meeting with Shenzhen officials, Tang expressed gratitude for their cooperation on the construction of the port.
In a Facebook post, Tang stated that both sides agree the port could be opened once the system is fully equipped and cross-boundary stress tests were completed successfully.
"Huanggang port is more than a major infrastructure project; it carries a national mission," he wrote.
