The Ministry of Justice on Wednesday said that the European Union's recent cross-border investigation into Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com under its Foreign Subsidies Regulation, has constituted unlawful extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The EU announced in May that it had opened an investigation into JD.com over its bid for major German electronics retail group Ceconomy.

The EU probe demanded "extensive and unnecessary" information, the Ministry of Justice said in a separate statement, calling the demand "a serious violation of the international rule of law".

The ministry has warned entities not to engage or assist in the EU's probe.

"No organisation or individual may execute or assist in the execution of such improper extraterritorial jurisdiction measures," according to the statement. (Xinhua/Agencies)
