A dog owner was released on bail on Thursday after his canine allegedly attacked and killed two small dogs in Yuen Long.
The 52-year-old man, Ng Sui-ting, is charged with failing to properly control a large dog.
The Tuen Mun Magistrates Court heard that Ng's large dog attacked a poodle and a bichon frise near YOHO Mall on Monday.
Both small dogs later died from their injuries.
The court also heard that the same dog had attacked another canine on July 10th, leaving it injured.
Ng is charged with allowing his dog to enter YOHO Mall and its outdoor plaza on two occasions without being on a leash.
He did not enter a plea and was released on 3,000 dollars bail.
He cannot leave Hong Kong or contact prosecution witnesses.
The case will return to court on October 29th.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department says it is considering additional charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance.
The dog is currently being held at the department's animal management centre for observation.
The department said Ng has signed a consent form surrendering custody, and the department will carry out a temperament assessment on the dog to decide what to do next.
