All teams competing in the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest in Wan Chai on Sunday will be looking to make a lasting impression on a frontier technology sector that has its eyes peeled for emerging talent.
Organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, the competition, also known as Robocon, is hoping for the 16 university teams from 15 countries and regions competing to embody this year's theme of 'Kung Fu Quest'.
Leung, a student who helped The Chinese University of Hong Kong win the contest two years ago, says home turf makes a real difference.
With the competition making its return to the SAR at Queen Elizabeth Stadium after 14 years, Leung said it has made transporting tools more convenient compared to flying to Vietnam for the contest in 2024.
“If we need to take some tools from the school, take some batteries, we do not need to think about how to carry them aboard the plane.”
Henry, who coaches the University of Hong Kong team, said he was not under too much pressure even though his team was just one step away from the top spot on the podium last year.
He believes that as long as each team member focuses on their assigned task and is clear about what they have to do, they will be able to win.
The two teams represent Hong Kong in the contest, co-organised by RTHK and the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation.
Founded in 2002, the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest is the largest university robotics competition in the region.
The contest will be broadcast live and aired across the Asia-Pacific and simulcast on RTHK TV 31.
