Police said a 67-year-old taxi driver died on Sunday morning after he was struck by a private car while inspecting a flat tire in Tseung Kwan O.
Officers were alerted to the incident around 5.40am.
The taxi had pulled over on Wan Po Road while heading towards Kowloon.
The driver got out and was standing behind the vehicle examining the tire when a private car hit him from behind.
The victim, who was unconscious, was rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries roughly an hour later.
Police said the driver of the private car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
