Police said a 67-year-old taxi driver died on Sunday morning after he was struck by a private car while inspecting a flat tire in Tseung Kwan O.
Officers were alerted to the incident at around 5.40am, with initial reports indicating that a 35-year-old man was driving along Wan Po Road towards Kowloon.
As the private car approached Hong Kong Velodrome Park, it reportedly failed to brake in time, crashing into a stationary taxi and the elderly driver, who was checking a rear tire.
Firefighters had to extricate the victim after the impact trapped him beneath the private car.
The taxi driver suffered multiple injuries and was rushed unconscious to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Police have arrested the private car driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
The Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East, is currently handling the case.
