Chief Executive John Lee on Monday said Hong Kong is the ideal springboard for mainland unicorn companies and technological startups seeking to expand internationally.
Speaking at the opening of the Global Unicorn Summit at the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, he pointed out that the city has nurtured around 20 local unicorn companies over the past decade, showing its ability to foster world-class innovative enterprises.
He said Hong Kong provides all-round support for startups.
“The two flagship technology hubs in Hong Kong – Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport – provide start-ups at various stages of development with comprehensive support: including incubation programmes, matching funds, marketing, expansion opportunities, as well as infrastructure,” Lee said.
Hong Kong is also the premier hub for top overseas tech and innovation enterprises to expand into the mainland market, he added.
