Hong Kong stocks rose on Wednesday, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight as tech shares rebounded, though uncertainties over US-Iran war still kept investors cautious.

The city's benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 124 points, or around 0.5 percent, to open at 25,635 points.

The tech gauge advanced 34 points, or 0.75 percent, to open at 4,622 points.

The rises were led by healthcare and tech stocks, with Innovent Biologics jumping 10.5 percent, Wuxi Biologics increasing by 2.1 percent, and Tencent advancing one percent.

Alibaba was also in focus after chairman Joe Tsai brought an extra 720,000 shares worth about HK$82 million, following recent purchases by other senior executives.

Shares on the mainland, however, opened mixed, with the benchmark, Shanghai Composite Index, down by 0.2 percent to stand at 3,881 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.1 percent higher at 13,761 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, was up 0.4 percent to open at 3,409 points.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and other indices, reflects the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

Elsewhere, Asian shares stuttered after a drop in oil prices dragged bond yields lower on hopes that the critical Strait of Hormuz could reopen.

This came after Iran said it had restarted talks with Oman to manage the Strait, as it faces heightened economic pressure from the US following the nearly six-month conflict.

Investors are now also bracing for yet another make-or-break earnings report from AI bellwether Nvidia as well as key US inflation data scheduled to be released later in the day. (Xinhua/Reuters)
