A primary school that saw its campus come perilously close to disaster during November's Wang Fuk Court inferno in Tai Po has moved to a new site ahead of the upcoming academic year.

Tai Po Baptist Public School's new campus, located at nearby Fu Shin Estate, sits on a building that used to house another school.

The new campus has seen extensive refurbishment, with the work carried out including upgrades on classrooms, toilets and the assembly hall as well as repainting of external walls, resurfacing of the sports ground and replacement of lifts.

The renovation works and subsidies for purchasing new furniture and equipment cost an estimated HK$43.6 million.

The Education Bureau has also provided a one-off HK$1 million grant to cover relocation expenses.

In the aftermath of the November disaster, the school's students, while waiting for the new campus to be ready, were split up between two other campuses in Tai Po for the rest of the 2025/26 academic year.

Officiating at the opening ceremony, Secretary for Education Christine Choi said the new campus marks a pivotal moment for staff and students to reunite in a safe, stable and welcoming learning environment.

She also toured the facilities and met with teachers and students.
