The Observatory said it will issue the Standby Signal No. 1 at 6.10pm on Monday, with the remnant of typhoon Saudel expected to intensify into a tropical depression.

Saudel is moving across the vicinity of the southeastern coast of Hainan, and is forecast to move across the northern part of the South China Sea from Tuesday to Wednesday.

It will then gradually move towards the coast of eastern Guangdong.

The weather forecaster said it will assess the need for issuing higher warning signals depending on Saudel’s movement and changes in local wind strength.

With the combined effect of Saudel and the northeast monsoon, winds will strengthen from Tuesday afternoon.

Showers will also be heavier in parts of the city on Tuesday.
