The city’s privacy watchdog on Tuesday said more than 33,000 people may have been affected in a recent data breach at online shopping platform Neigbuy.

The company said it detected a suspected cyber attack last month, resulting in the unauthorised access to some data, including users’ names, phone numbers, email addresses and details of their orders.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data said it has been notified of the incident.

It called on people who may be affected to stay vigilant and consider changing their passwords.

Police also said they recorded six cases of scammers posing as the platform’s customer service team over the past week, involving a total loss of more than HK$300,000.
