Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will be closed starting from October 12 for refurbishments aimed at better serving visitors’ needs.

The resort hotel, which started checking in guests just over two decades ago when the theme park opened, offers 400 rooms and two restaurants.

Anita Lai, vice president of communications and public affairs, said on Friday that the hotel would retain its “classic storytelling charm” following the facelift.

“We have noticed that many tourists’ demands and preferences have changed. In particular, they look for a more immersive experience,” she said.

“Therefore, in our upgrade plan, we will place greater emphasis on more storytelling and immersive experiences as well as further enhance our quality service.”

Renovation work has been underway at the west wing of the hotel since June.

While the Victorian-style resort hotel is undergoing comprehensive enhancements, the other two establishments in the theme park – Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel – will remain open.

Food and beverage director Manfred Wong said nearly 150,000 food items belonging to themed-dining offers launched in conjunction with the Pixar Summer Fest, which ended in August, were snapped up by visitors.

The park's Plaza Inn restaurant, which reopened in June, has served more than 40,000 visitors so far.

The theme park has also stepped up efforts to offer more halal fare, Wong said, including frozen lollipops and two kinds of Halloween-exclusive barbecue platters.
